INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND DISCLOSE ABOUT YOU

  • Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others;
  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency;
  • Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other form, such as from your current or past employers or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions;
  • Information that you provide us when submitting membership or loan applications electronically (via our Internet Website or via our 24-hour Touch Tone Teller system).

We may disclose all the information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.  To protect our members' privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide.  We do not allow these companies to sell the member information we provide to other third parties.

We may also disclose information about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law.  These disclosures typically include information to follow your instructions as you authorize, to conduct the operations of the credit union, or to protect the security of our financial records.

DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION ABOUT FORMER MEMBERS

If you terminate your membership with Co-Operative Credit Union, we will not share information we have collected about you, except as permitted or required by law.

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION

We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who have a specific business purpose in utilizing your data.  Our employees are trained in the importance to maintaining confidentiality and member privacy.  We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic personal information.

WEBSITE PRIVACY

Co-Operative Credit Union respects your right to privacy and has taken steps to assure that your privacy is not compromised.  Please be assured that the Credit Union does not:

  • Collect personal information from you unless you provide it to us or
  • Provide or sell to outside vendors any personal information collected via our website.

Co-Operative Credit Union does:

  • Safeguard members' and site users' information from unauthorized access and
  • Maintain confidentiality of member information that you provide to us.

  • Personal information you knowingly give us.

As you browse our site, our web server collects information about your visit, not about you personally.  Via our web server logs, we monitor how many people visit our site, and what times of the day the site experiences peaks of activity.

While we gather this information, none of it is associated with you as an individual.  We use these statistics to monitor the performance of our website and to help us make it easier for you and other to use.

Within the site(s) www.co-operativecu.com and www.thebettercu.com, you may be asked to give us personal information in order to apply for membership, a loan, or other services.  Please be assured that our application forms securely collect personal and financial information.  The information that we request on our applications is only used to process your request quickly and accurately.  When you submit an application, your personal and financial information is encrypted so that it cannot be read without a complicated decoding process.  To confirm that your application is secure, look for the image of a lock or key within one of the margins of your browser window.  If the lock appears closed or the key appears whole, then you are viewing a secure page.  Otherwise, the lock may appear as open or the key as broken.

WHAT MEMBERS CAN DO TO HELP

Co-Operative Credit Union is committed to protecting the privacy of its members.  Members can help by following these simple guidelines:

  • Protect your account numbers, card numbers, PINs (personal identification numbers) and passwords.  Never keep your PIN with your debit (or credit) card which can provide free access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen.
  • Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc., to other persons.  If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the credit union and asks for your account number, you should beware.  Official credit union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it, except to verify your identity in order to process a transaction you have requested.
  • Keep your information with us current.  It is important that we have current information on how to reach you.  If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of an account, we will attempt to contact you immediately.  If you move and do not tell us, your account statement could fall into the wrong hands, increasing the risk of fraudulent activity and/or compromising the privacy of your nonpublic personal information.  If you address or phone number changes, please let us know.
